K-3 Newsletter
Mrs. MacIntyre September 5,2014
Dear Families,
We have had a great first week here in K-3. What a wonderful
class! The children are learning all about their new school, new classroom and new
friends. Everything is new and different and exciting at the same time. I am
sure that your child is probably coming home very tire. They have a long day
here in kindergarten. We have been learning each other’s names and learning
about school rules. The children are beginning to learn the routine of the day
and the expectations. There is so much to take in these first couple of weeks.
I hope that your child is relaxed and comfortable here at school Next week we
will be in more of a routine and we will start with our letter of the week .We
will focus on a letter of the week each week. The letters aren’t learned in
alphabetically order but by our handwriting program which teaches them
basically in the way they are formed. We will also begin with some number and
shape recognition activities.
Our author of the month is Eric Carle. We will read many of
his books with a special emphasis on The
Very Hungry Caterpillar. This
book does a great job teaching children about sequencing, nutrition and the
lifecycle of a butterfly. It is always a favorite.
Please make sure you are sending your child with plenty of
snacks. Some of them are telling me they are still hungry in the afternoon.
They must be working up an appetite. Also if you don’t mind, if you send your child
with a yogurt or applesauce for snack, please make sure they have a spoon. I am
really excited about this year. I know this is a big adjustment for many of you
and if you have any questions or concerns about your child please feel free to
write me a note or send me an e-mail. macintyre.colleen@jamestownschools.org.
On Tuesday,
September 16th at 7:00p.m., we will be having an Open House here at
Melrose School. This is a great time for parents to come and meet the
principal and teachers and see your child’s classroom. I hope to see you all
here. If anyone would like to make a class donation of disinfecting wipes that
would be helpful. I am in good shape right now but I use them a lot! Thank you
in advance I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Fondly,
Colleen MacIntyre
