K-3 Newsletter
Mrs. MacIntyre
Dear Families,
September 23,2016
We had a nice full week of school here in K-3. It is nice getting into the routine of things and all of the students seem to be adjusting very well. We have begun our Unit Study of Eric Carle. We will read many books by Mr. Carle, paying particular attention to The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We are learning about sequence and days of the week from this book and the students made their own hungry caterpillars to hang in the classroom. We also read some books by other authors this week. We read Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom, Chrysanthemum,Wemberly Worried and The Kissing Hand. Many of the students seemed familiar with these. It is nice to see the class enjoying read alouds so much, especially since it is one of my favorite things to do with the class.
We are doing Writer’s Workshop everyday now. The students are doing well. I encourage them to use “good kid’s spelling”, and write the sounds they hear when they say a word, not worrying if it is right or wrong. When they draw a picture, I also encourage them to use five colors or more to add detail.
Our letter of the week was “Ee” and our tongue twister was: ”Elizabeth and Ethan eat eclairs.” No one in our class knew what an eclair was.. I explained it looked like a creme filled hot dog drizzled with chocolate, of course they all wanted to try one!
In math, we began writing our numbers 0-5 and we also practiced working in our Go Math workbooks.
We worked hard on getting our classroom ready for Open House. We have only been in school for 11 days so I think the students did a fabulous job! I thank you for coming and if you were not able to make it that’s no problem, I look forward to meeting with you all at conference time. Thanks for taking the time to come in.
We will be beginning our Trees and Weather unit. We will be observing and collecting data on different types of trees and how they change throughout the year.
We also celebrated the first day of autumn which was Thursday, September 22nd! I love autumn in New England and look forward to exploring nature with the students during this beautiful season.
I hope your child is enjoying kindergarten and please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any concerns.
Have a nice weekend. If anyone sees any signs of autumn outside in nature this weekend, your child is welcome to bring them into school and we will put them on our Autumn table it is looking great already!
Thank you to Bramble for bringing in her caterpillars to share with the class, one was wrapped in a cocoon and the students loved seeing it!
Sincerely,
Mrs. MacIntyre
