Dear Families,
Happy May Day!
We are finishing up our Oviparous unit this week. Your child will be bringing home a folder sometime next week to share with you what they have learned. We still have guppies here at school that we are watching and learning about.
.In math, we began focusing on subtraction and the students are doing an excellent job with this abstract concept. They have learned so much this year, I am proud of each and every one of them! Continue to practice at home with manipulatives to reinforce this. Thank you!
In Writer’s Workshop we are focusing on poetry. We are writing reactions and opinions based on poetry we have read. In our writing we are including at least two sentences. We are incorporating capitalization, lower case letter, spacing and proper punctuation. Add a beautiful illustration and you have a wonderful piece of work. I am encouraging each child to challenge themselves based on their own ability.  I am so proud of how hard they continue to work towards the end of the year. Speaking of the end of the year please let me know if your child will not be able to attend kindergarten graduation on June 25th so we can plan accordingly. The children are working on a special show for you and I am looking forward to seeing all of you there. There will be more details about end of the year activities within the next couple of weeks. As the end of the year approaches, please let me know if you have any special questions of concerns concerning your child.
We had a wonderful trip to Casey Farm! The children had a great time.  The children saw a Barn cat. We “milked cows”, learned about horse pulling, planted a bean seed, pet bunnies, explored an herb garden, hoed the garden and planted more seeds, saw baby turkeys, baby chicks, and saw Rhode Island Reds and also held a warm, freshly laid egg. We ended it with a nice picnic outside and the weather held off so perfectly for us. It is so fun to watch the class out in “the real world” having fun with their peers and learning at the same time! Thank you to Mrs. Tighe, Mrs. Marks, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Marlowe and Auntie Anton.
On May 11th we will be going to Casey Farm beach. If you have not had the opportunity to chaperone this year and you are interested please let me know.
This afternoon is the Melrose Derby held by Mr. Ucci, ask your child how it goes when you see them after school. Thanks to Mr. Ucci for holding this annual event.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Fondly,
Mrs. MacIntyre
