K-3 Newsletter
Mrs. MacIntyre May 15, 2015
Dear Families,
May is moving
along and we are busy as ever here in K-3.
Our trip to Casey
Farm Beach was wonderful. The children had a great time exploring the bay and
finding minnows and crabs. I hope you have the opportunity to take your child
to the beach and look for crabs now that the warmer weather is finally here,
they were so excited!
We have been
learning all about types of birds and the different sounds that they make. The
students are enjoying this and are eager to find their favorite bird outside.
Many have told me they have bird nests in their yards. How great! We also read
some great books about seeds and plants. The children enjoy talking and
learning about gardening, vegetables and flowers.
Encourage your
child to identify different types of birds you may see in your neighborhood
over the weekend.
We have been
practicing our lowercase letters. The children are incorporating them into
their daily writing very well. It is wonderful to look back and recognize all
the progress each student has made. Kindergarten is such an exciting year of
changes.
In math, we
continue to work on subtraction and we are revisiting 2-D and 3-D shapes.
The children are
doing well on their nightly reading bags and I am so encouraged with all the
wonderful readers we have in kindergarten. Reading should always be a comforting
and relaxing activity you do with your child. I hope it is enjoyable for all of
you. Remember, reading to
your child is just as important and beneficial for your child as your child
reading to you. They pick up on your reading style, your expression and build
their listening skills and imagination so… enjoy! I will continue to send home
nightly readers until about the first week of June, then I will end that so I
can make sure I have all the books returned before the end of school. That being said, it’s not too early to start
looking around to make sure you have returned all of your books to Mrs. Casey
in the library. Continue to read to your child every night and make it a part
of your child’s bedtime ritual.
Of course, please
remember
KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION
JUNE 25TH IN THE MULTI-PURPOSE
ROOM AT 9:15 a.m.
I mistakenly wrote 9:00 am
in my last newsletter.
Following graduation there will be a family
style picnic at Fort Wetherill. You should bring food and drink for your family
along with a blanket, chairs, and lawn toys! Graduation should be over by 10:30
and then you bring your child with you to Fort Wetherhill. Parents must accompany their child on the trip. It is so
much fun having all the families together. We eat and play lawn games and share
good times with all the kindergarten families.
If you have any
questions about the upcoming events, please let me know. I will have more
details coming; I just wanted to let you know so you can plan accordingly.
Have a nice
weekend,
Fondly,
Colleen MacIntyre
