Dear Families,
March 17, 2017

I am sure you will hear all about the shenanigans that went on here in K-3 today. We had a mischievous leprechaun that came into our classroom. The students were on the lookout for him all day, we think we heard him but we never saw him….
We were very lucky to have Kathy Brownell come in and gather all the kindergarten classrooms together. She told us some Irish folktales and sang some beautiful music with different instruments as well. She also read a poem to us that including our class. She is very talented and kind to come in and treat us to such a great time. Thank you Miss Kathy!
We continue to work on word families and rhyming words. The students are also comparing fiction and nonfiction books. We have been writing informational pieces during writer’s workshop. We have described areas of the classroom and areas of the playground. The students have also describe Dr. Seuss books as fiction. Thank you for sharing your Dr. Seuss books from home.
In math, we are practicing with addition and subtraction number stories. The students are getting very proficient and addition and subtraction!
Our letter of the week was “Ii”. Our tongue twister was, “ Isaac and Iris like ice cubes and ice cream.”
We are so excited for our field trip on Wednesday to the VETS Theater in Providence. The students have been asking me so many questions… for example: “Can we dress up?”... Yes they can. And our favorite question: “Will there be popcorn?”... No there won’t, sorry.
Please remember to give your child a large breakfast,as we will probably not eat until noon. You must pack your child a paper bag lunch with a drink and no peanut products. Thank you in advance. Thank you also to the Jamestown Education Foundation who has helped with the cost of this trip so the cost to families is free!
I hope you all have a nice weekend.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Dear families,
March 3, 2017
Happy March!
It is so exciting to know that spring is only 17 days away!
The students are diving right into Dr. Seuss with great enthusiasm. I think if time allowed I could read all day and the students would be happy. It is so great to see them so excited about reading, this is what makes Dr. Seuss the most loved children’s author of all times.
We celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Thursday, March 2nd, by reading about Dr. Seuss , reading The Cat in the Hat  and making hats. We learned that Dr. Seuss was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1904. We also learned his real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel.
Throughout the month, we will be reading many of his books. I have a lot here in class but if your child has a favorite that they would like to bring in please feel free to do so.
Our letter of the week was, “Gg.” Our tongue twister was “Gail and Gwen grow goodies in their garden.”
In Writer’s Workshop, we wrote responses to a book we read called,”When Sophie gets Angry.” We wrote about things that make us angry and also brainstormed and wrote about strategies we can use to help us when we get angry. We also wrote about things and places that make us happy.
In math, we practiced  addition and subtraction. The students are becoming very proficient with these math skills.
If you are not returning your child’s reading bag, would you please do so. If you have misplaced it can you please let me know and I can make a new one.
Finally, these has been a difficult week with sicknesses. Thank you all for keeping your child home when they are sick. It is a very long day when you are sick in school and not feeling well and germs are so easily spread when you are this little. I hope this weekend allows for some rest and recovery for all of you who have been sick.
Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,

Mrs.MacIntyre
