Dear Families,
May 22, 2015
Happy Memorial Day! I hope you all have a nice long weekend. The weather looks warm and sunny for Monday so enjoy. If you are new to the area, please know there is a fabulous parade on Narragansett Ave on Monday morning. You don’t want to miss it. All the flags will be up at East Ferry and it is a beautiful way to recognize our country. I hope you can enjoy it.
We have been reading some great poetry this month. The students are becoming wonderful poets and having a great time learning new skills in writing poetry. It is amazing!
This week, we focused on subtraction in math. We are working hard and the students and using teddy bear counters to help them learn the concept of subtraction. You can practice this at home using cheerios or other small food items. Continue to practice counting to 100 with your child as well.
I will continue with the reading bags for one more week and then I will stop so I can be sure I have all of them back when the end of the year rolls around. I still can’t believe it is right around the corner. My own daughter is graduating high school on June 5th and I remember her here in Jamestown graduating kindergarten like it was yesterday so enjoy every moment you can! Mrs. Hostetler is working hard with the kindergarteners to prepare for kindergarten graduation June 25th. The children will be singing for you and then receiving their diplomas.
Following graduation all families are invited to come to Fort Wetherill for a picnic and games. Please bring a blanket, chairs, picnic and lawn toys..Also, make sure to bring your own bag for garbage there is no garbage and this park. In the past families have brought waffle ball/bat, footballs, hula hoops, bubbles, kite and any other fun lawn toys. I am looking forward to it. It is a great time.
Reminder: NKHS Art Show is Friday May 29th at 5:30 at the North Kingstown High School. Kindergarteners from Jamestown and North Kingstown will be there.
Have a great weekend!
Fondly,
Mrs. MacIntyre
